Acupuncture points

How To Find Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points are anatomically defined areas on skin relative to certain landmarks on body. Original Chinese pictographs for acupoints denoted that there were holes in skin through which qi energy could flow. These acupoints are reliably detected with electrodermal measurements. While there are numerous acupuncture locations on body, some acupuncturists practicing at Acupuncture Perth, often turn to conventionally identified points. Acupuncture points are generally mapped to 14 main meridian channels called Jing lou through which Qi (vital life energy) Xue (blood), Jinye (body fluids), Jing (essence) and Shen (spirit) flow. One meridian channel relates to each of 12 inner organs. Two additional channels relate to ‘extraordinary vessels’-spine interior (governing vessel) and other along abdominal midline (conception vessel). Meridians are basically networks compared to circulatory system in Western medicine, and each of 14 meridian channels constitute specific number and acupuncture points which include:

  • Lung
  • Large intestine
  • Stomach
  • Spleen
  • Heart
  • Small intestine
  • Bladder
  • Kidney
  • Pericardium
  • Triple Energizer
  • Gallbladder
  • Liver
  • Governing Vessel known as sea of yang
  • Conception Vessel known as sea of yin
